I think I like the purple. I has a poltergeist or spirit feel to it. I think what you may want to work on is the wall next to the door. It just seems a little out of place for now. I assume that you are still working on this piece. It looks like you are heading in a good direction on this one though.
I keep getting drawn to the light area on the left. If this is not your focal point then I'd darken that area. Then my eye would get drawn more towards the door and purple inside the door. Same thing with the wall to a certain degree. There is a lot of isolated color in this piece. Think about keeping the purple isolated for emphasis but sharing the other colors throughout the composition to create more of connection and less areas of isolated emphasis.
I like the purple because it seems as if something is trying to get into the room. Like brandon said, a spirit feel to it. I think it would be really cool, if you made the purple seem to "crawl" into the room more, so have a little more of that purple crawling into the door because it seems like there is a line where it stops where the door opens.
This is what I have been working on this week... Im not sure if I like the purple in the doorway??? Any suggestions or comments would be great!
